General Information

1967 through 1971 Coronet R/T's and Superbee's were built at three different assembly plants: Lynch Road in Michigan, St. Louis in Missouri, and the Los Angeles plant in California. They were built for USA specifications, Canadian specifications, or Export specifications. This was noted on the broadcast sheet and sometimes the fendertag. The sales codes in 1968 were: 686 - build for Canadian order, 677 - build for Export order. On the fendertag will be a "6" or "7" under the small "w", which is the last digit of the sales code.

In 1969, they used the codes: Y05 for USA specs., Y07 for Canadian spec., and Y09 for Export specs. In 1970, these are sometimes on the fendertag, depending which assembly plant the car was built at. Lynch Road used a unique coding on their tags, which told more about the drivetrain, but was vague about the car's options.

In looking over the following production figures, keep in mind that in most cases, the Export numbers are unknown. Even the Canadian numbers are unknown for most of these cars. In these cases, we only have numbers for cars that turn up, and have been registered or documented, then they are known to exist numbers. Sometimes, export cars were delivered to US dealers, when a person in the military could order a car from overseas, and then arrange delivery to a local dealer. So there are export cars that never left the states. Also, a car going to Mexico, or South or Latin America would be an export car. I saw a 1969 Charger R/T in Florida that was an export car, and it even had it's heater deleted. So it must have been shipped to a very warm climate when sold new. Also, in November of 1991, while in Florida, I saw a most unique 1969 Superbee. It had been repainted white and had a red interior, but when I decoded the fendertag, I found it was actually supposed to have a dark green metallic exterior. It would have made for a good Christmas time car! It was rusted pretty bad, from the top down, from the salty sea air. Additional Note:    From 1967-71, 440 & 426 engines with a 4-speed transmission always came with the stronger heavy duty Dana truck axle. You had your choice of ratio's, either 3.54 standard, or 4.10 optional. It is rarer to find the Dana behind an automatic transmission, but they were available with the (A32) Super Performance Axle Package.
